MEGAN FOX TURNS ROBOTS (AND AUDIENCES) ON TO 'TRANSFORMERS'

Megan Fox is relative newbie to the Hollywood big screen having only starred in a number television series and a handful of walk-away roles in some films. Most recently she was on the ill-fated HOPE & FAITH from ABC before landing the role of Mikaela Banes in the summer blockbuster TRANSFORMERS.
Fox’s role in TRANSFORMERS isn’t the typical Michael Bay female lead – a milquetoast beautiful character that rides the coat tails of sometimes numerous male counterparts. The director instead has Banes as a powerful female who does her fair share of butt kicking. “I think the writers wrote [Banes] as a very respectable female character,” Fox says. “She was strong, she was different and she was relatable in all of these things. It wasn’t me because the writers did a good job.”

Much has been written about having Bay as a director – that he yells and is very combative, even abusive, to actors on the set. Yet, Fox never experienced anything like that on the set of TRANSFORMERS. “He pushed me but he had to and not in a negative way,” she says. “He pushed me to be tough and really do some of that action that maybe I wasn't prepared to do. I needed that.”
It was something that she wasn’t afraid of after a long audition process where she not only had to convince Bay she was right for the job but Steven Spielberg as well. “I had like eight different meetings over the span of a month or month and a half,” Fox says. “There are a lot of other people you have to convince as well. It's not even just those two, it's a mass amount of people that have to believe in you.”

Talk about an intimidating proposition. “Particularly for me because I'm kind of coming out of nowhere and I am completely unknown,” Fox says. “So it was very intimidating but then they brought me in for chemistry with Shia [LaBeouf] and I really like Shia and got along with him. I think that helped me.”
What also helped her knowledge from an early age, 3, that she wanted to be an actress. So much so she stopped paying attention in school because she got too bored and couldn’t concentrate on the facts, figures and verbiage being thrown at her when her true calling was in front of her.
“My mom was like ‘Look, you are going to get flunked out so lets just test you in correspondence school and see what happens,’” Fox says. “I passed it immediately and I actually got here.”
Fox stands out not only for her beauty and acting prowess but for an odd collection of tattoos, the first of which she got when she turned 18. One is a head shot of Marilyn Monroe, another is tribal waves because as she says “I am really in touch with the ocean and I am a surfer. It wasn’t done well. The guy was smoking weed.” Another one is an adapted reference from Shakespear’s KING LEAR reading “We will all laugh at gilded butterflies.”
“To me it represents a warning sign to be a part of Hollywood,” Fox says. “Be wary of it because you can be one of those girls that fall in too far. You become obsessed with it and people in the world end up laughing at you. You get lost.”
And Fox doesn’t want to get lost because she might take up one of the offers she gets from drive bys. “People will drive past my car and scream at me, ‘I’ll buy you an airplane if you give me your phone number,’” Fox says. “I get all kinds of things like that but no one will come up to me and ask for my number.”
"A PERFECT MARRIAGE"
WWD reports that the Valentino Group has bought a 45 percent stake in Proenza Schouler. For the young designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, the new arrangement means a "security net" and a "strategic partner" in Italy's factories and fabric mills. For Valentino, it "can bring something significant in terms of image." As for whether or not the boys will take over the design reins when Valentino eventually retires, only time will tell. The 75-year-old is said to be negotiating a new three year contract.
Party Boy
On Thursday night Real Estate Heir & Designer Christopher Baez gathered a small group of fashion notables and celebrities for a mid- summer Mega Bash in honor of His Label Chic & Republic, among the notables faces was Alana Aturialt. The Baez connection? Aturialt wears nothing but Baez Couture in the series of party-girl self-portraits she shot for the designers new collection. "I don't shoot with flash, but I wanted to look at the snapshots for that deer-in-the-headlights, kind of surprised look," she said

Exclusive: Tom & Katie: His Risky Dance Moves!
As guests like Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Eva Longoria and Brooke Shields mingled, Jim Carrey pretended to spank girlfriend Jenny McCarthy as they boogied—and Will Smith rapped and did splits on the dance floor.
“I can’t believe Will can move like that!” marveled Carrey. But, as Us Weekly reports in its new issue, the real showstopper came when the DJ played “Old Time Rock & Roll,” prompting Cruise to re-enact his famous scene from Risky Business. At one point, he got on his back and kicked his legs in the air, just like in the movie!
In real life, however, the star kept his pants on.

Beauty from the Pros
"We're focusing all about the eyes, all about beautiful skin. I thought it would be really good if this girl looks sophisticated and smoldering, with a slight edge. It's all about that pale mouth and that smoked eye."
Eugene Souleiman for Narciso Rodriguez
"I'm actually really, really excited about Narciso's show today because it's the first time we've ever done the hair down in seven years."
Dick Page for Michael Kors
"She's always going to be healthy and warm and glowing. She wants the full fantasia of the American dream. She's got enough money to follow the sun, so we just color her in and send her out there."
Dick Page for Marc Jacobs
"Much to their chagrin, we're bleaching the girls' eyebrows and then we're sketching in the finer brow. It's pretty monochrome."
Matthew Nigara for Diane von Furstenberg
"The spirit of the makeup is Diane von Furstenberg. She's always the inspiration for every makeup that I do for her shows. It's very independent; it's very confident; it's very deliberate. It's very quick. It's very structured."

Nightlife: The Best Club in Puerto Rico
Tall Concept: Shoes of the moment
This summer's vogue for high-heel sneakers can be traced to Dries Van Noten's Spring 2007 runway show, where they were a neat symbol of his melding of casual and classy (though we're not sure that's the look Victoria Beckham was going for last month in Los Angeles, when she wore a similar style to throw out the opening pitch at a Dodgers game). Following through on that idea are the Y-3 Phasma shoes, due out this fall. They're sneakers, but they all have a heel inspired by a particular sport—the highest being the Phasma 90, which is based on the starting position of the foot for track racing. They come in white and black, but unless you enjoy nurse comments or want to draw comparisons to mid-eighties secretarial getups, you might want to stick with black.

One talking point among guests at the Christian Dior Haute Couture party was Karen Mulder's shoe moment at the show an hour or so before. Apparently hobbled by Dior's perilous platforms, she gracefully floated herself to a seat at the edge of the runway rather than finish her tour. Equally serene (and surely more comfortable) a few hours later, Mulder unsurprisingly said "the shoes!" were the hardest part of returning to the catwalk. "When I did runway, they didn't haveshoes like this. They're insane now."
Still The One
The press release for The One says it's made for the "ultimate diva.
" Are you a diva? What do you think?
No, really, when Domenico and Stefano called me about this project, they said they were looking for a strong, confident woman—someone who's comfortable in her own skin and sexy, but not too sexy, because there's a fine line. This woman, she's more glamorous than me, but I felt flattered that they still think of me as "the one" after having worked together for ten years.
What do you think of the fragrance?
I really love it, but my sisters will be very upset if I get home without one for each of them. I'm going home now for my holiday and they'll kick me out of the house if I don't have them.
What's the best place in Brazil for a holiday?
Brazil is an amazing country. For parties, I'd say go to Rio. São Paulo is like New York City, but bigger. If you want to eat, go there—it has great restaurants. If you want to chill, go to the north. The south, where I'm from, is not so touristy. When you go to Brazil, you feel at home, welcome. It's not like going to England, where no one looks at you. I remember the first time I was there, I was like, they don't like me. I was 16. No one wanted to give me a hug. In Brazil, everybody hugs everybody. It's just a different culture.
How did it feel to open the Dior show?
I have never been so nervous in my entire life. I kept saying, "Can anyone help, can anyone go before me? I don't want to be the first one." John [Galliano] is another amazing designer. It was very exciting for me. I could barely breathe. The whole time I was walking—it was 150 meters—I was thinking, God help me, just help me get to the end of this. And then I made it and I had to watch the show for half an hour. All the girls were nervous; it wasn't just me.
Speaking of comfort, or the lack thereof, how does that corset dress feel?
That's the cool thing about Dolce & Gabbana. They can make you look sexy without pain. You know how they say, No pain, no gain? That's not happening. Look, it's latex. I can eat cake; I can eat whatever I want.
What's your favorite Dolce & Gabbana piece?
I have a black bustier dress that's very typical of Dolce & Gabbana. The back is completely open; it's so sexy. From the front, it's just this black tube, but from the back, it's all open
